Amy Phillips

Amy Phillips is the Director of Communications for the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts. The upcoming complex will soon transform the historic Beverly Hills Post Office (that totally awesome Renaissance Revival building on the corner of Little Santa Monica Blvd and Canon Drive), currently being adapted into a state-of-the-art facility. YES! Not only will Beverly Hills be home to Prada and Gucci but will become a vital part of the LA performing arts scene.
A native New Yorker, Amy is mom to a hip 6th grader and wife to a hilariously funny comedy writer. She has an amazing craft room in her home where she scrapbooks her family’s travels. If given a choice, Phillips would rather shop (especially vintage) than eat. An admittedly terrible cook, her daughter is now the household chef. Before having a child, Phillips always knew she wanted a girl. And she is thoroughly enjoying the journey...even though it now means sharing clothes! The family also shares their home with a little white Bichon Frise named Sugar and Twinkie, the hamster.
Your favorite place in LA to have a cocktail?
I am not a big drinker. I would rather consume my calories in the form of chocolate, cupcakes and any other random sweets.
Your favorite LA place for bargain shopping?
Bargain shopping is my favorite sport. The sale section at Anthropologie is my favorite. Each store has a sale area and there are definitely bargains to be had there. I rarely pay full price at Anthropologie. I have literally seen items at Anthropologie (in the Grove) and then walked across the way to Forever 21 and found items that look almost identical...for a fraction of the price. Forever 21's Twelve By Twelve Line is also fabulous! And don't forget Target to pick up cheap and trendy items each season.
You could change one thing about LA - what would it be?
The cost of living and the potential for a big earthquake.
You’ve always wanted to go to this LA spot – but just haven’t made it there yet?
The Magic Castle. I bet it's very cool.
Your favorite LA extravagance?
A little diamond trinket from XIV Karats in Beverly Hills.
Your favorite neighborhood haunt?
Indian food at Chakra Cuisine on Doheny and then a mound of yogurt with healthy fruit and the calorie-laden M&M's at Toppings Yogurt on Robertson.
Your favorite local getaway?
Our annual November day-trip to Oak Glenn. We started going there more than 10 years ago to see the fall leaves. There are numerous apple farms and we spend the day going from farm to farm eating our way through the day. From apple cobbler to apple donuts to caramel apples...it's a real fall festival. And if you don't stuff yourself too much, you can stop on the way home for authentic Chinese food in Monterey Park for dinner.
Your favorite place for cheap eats?
Any Indian restaurant in Artesia. That's the hub of LA's Indian community. Not only cheap eats, but cheap shopping and cheap eyebrow threading!! It’s my daughter's favorite place for stocking up on trendy bangle bracelets.
You always take out of town guests to this spot?
The Hollywood sign. EVERYONE wants their picture taken with that sign.
You're most connected to this charity or your last volunteer experience?
Since I work at the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, I have to say that's my main charity. But on a personal level, I am passionate about animal rights and children's charities. I feel that both animals and kids are innocent creatures that cannot speak for themselves.
