Shannon Komsky

Shannon Komsky has pretty much been obsessed with fashion retail since she was old enough to fold clothes (and we’re not just talking shirt folding at The Gap.) She worked her way up and through just about every women’s chain store in The Valley. During high school and college, Shannon acquired the skills necessary for running a successful clothing store. After receiving her degree in Communications from USC, her second love—music--led her to dabble in radio advertising sales.
Not long after her daughter Mia was born in 2007, Shannon gave birth once again – this time to Tough Cookies! She realized that there was no place in the San Fernando Valley where you could find unique and cutting-edge baby and kids’ clothes, and decided to open up shop.
With a killer collection of unique and adorable finds, along with a definite rock ‘n roll vibe, Shannon opened Tough Cookies in August of 2007 and the website http://www.shoptoughcookies.com one year later.
Shannon is proud to say that her customers always tell her they get lots of raves whenever their kids wear rockin’ outfits from Tough Cookies. But her favorite compliment is when moms and dads ask her if the clothes come in adult sizes?!
Your favorite place in LA to have a cocktail?
Viceroy Hotel in Santa Monica by the pool, or Fathers Office on Montana.
Your favorite LA place for bargain shopping?
Rose Bowl Swap Meet. For a long time, it was a Mothers Day tradition. We would all get up early and head out there.
You could change one thing about LA - what would it be?
It would have to be the traffic.
You’ve always wanted to go to this LA spot – but just haven’t made it there yet?
I have lived here my entire life so there aren't too many places I haven't been...but I would have to say Chateau Marmont.
Your favorite LA extravagance?
Spa Day at Burke Williams.
Your favorite neighborhood haunt?
Vivian's Millenium Cafe. My husband and I have been going there for years. We used to bring our dogs and sit out on the patio...now it's the dogs, the baby and us...it is a real family affair. They make the best breakfast in town! The banana pancakes are amazing!
Your favorite local getaway?
The Parker in Palm Springs
Your favorite place for cheap eats?
Antonio's Pizzeria. You get a lot of food for a reasonable price. My dad used to go there after his fencing matches in college so it has been a family favorite for a long time.
You always take out of town guests to this spot?
Ole' in Sherman Oaks for tapas or Gardens of Taxco in West Hollywood.
You're most connected to this charity or your last volunteer experience?
I have just started to get involved with the Pajama Program which provides new pajamas to children in shelters, orphanages and group homes. It gives them a small sense of comfort when their world is turned upside down.
I have been involved with the Los Angeles Jewish Home for the Aging for many years, and actually met my husband while volunteering there.
