Girls Spa Day, Rainy Days

Ask the Yenta

Dear Yenta, So my birthday is coming up next month – and I think I want to do something with just my girlfriends. Where’s a place we could go to get some inexpensive spa services, and then maybe a cute lunch? I was thinking maybe one of those Korean day spas, but I’m not sure all my friends would be up for the nudity. I kinda want to be pampered, but the cost is a huge issue for almost everyone who will be invited, so it has to be someplace where we could do little services that are a good deal. What do you think? Does anyplace come to mind”

Yeah, I’d probably stay away from the “all nude” spas. Personally, I know I don’t want to be walking around anywhere nude! And perhaps many of your girlfriends feel the same way…

Alright – so I’m just going to throw out a few ideas.  These many not fit the exact request but they offer some fun treats – and the price is right!

The Lounge Spa in Culver City
All your guests will receive an elixir tonic with their service.
25-min Facial for $40
25-min Swedish Massage for $35
Eye Treatment for $20

After your treatments you can grab a nice organic lunch at nearby Leaf Cuisine.

Nite Spa in Venice
Mini Facial $75
Regular Manicure $25
Deluxe Manicure $45
Manicure + Palm Reading $75
15-min Chair Massage $35
Foot Reflexology $65Nite Spa is open from 3pm till Midnight – so before or after, check outPrimitivo Wine and Tapas bar.Glen Ivy Hot Springs
Take the day off and head out to Corona — it’s just 58 miles from Los Angeles!  Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday – $38 per person. Saturday, Sunday, and Holidays – $49 per person. The mineral waters and red clay mud baths are included in the entrance fee. You can eat lunch there, plus anyone can add extra treatments if they desire — like you, birthday girl!  This is a great price for a full day’s activity and super fun for a group!

Hollywood, Dinner and Chocolate!

Ask the Yenta

Dear Yenta, I’m coming to LA and am taking some clients out to dinner in Hollywood – any suggestions?”

Of course!

I often get calls and emails from other celebrity assistants asking or my help.  Here are a couple of questions from this week!

“Dear Yenta, my boss asked me to send “K” chocolates to a friend of hers for a thank you.  I have searched the internet and nothing comes up. Do you perhaps know what she’s talking about?”

Sure do!  She means K Chocolatier by Diane Kron. The store is located on Little Santa Monica Blvd. in Beverly Hills – and you always call in your order!  310-248-2626. The favorites are the little crispy teddy bears in white, dark and milk chocolate, the truffles and the hot chocolate!!

http://www.dianekronchocolates.com/

“Dear Yenta, my boss asked me to make a reservation at The Chateau Marmont – but she said “not the bar.” So what does that mean? Do you have any ideas?”

My guess is that she’s referring to The Chateau Restaurant – it’s separate from Bar Marmont.  You can just call the main line at the hotel and ask for Nicole who takes reservations at 323-656-1010.

Just an ordinary Saturday in Los Angeles

Who says living in Los Angeles isn’t
AWESOME?!

Here’s a typical ordinary Saturday in LA.  I love this place!

It’s a warehouse and resale outlet facility based in Van Nuys.  They warehouse and resell hotel furniture, new overstock furnishings, decorator goods, and lodging items – AND they are open to the general public!!  New shipments from Rumor has it, there’s a big sale this weekend. You can find small armoires with storage drawers $299, long upholstered benches $59, large armoires with antique details $349, wood end tables $149-$199 and small writing or dining tables $49.95.  Such a deal!!!

Hours: M-F 9:00-6:00   Sat. 10-5, Closed Sunday

12pm

Amy Jurist, chef and owner of Amy’s Culinary Adventures catering company, highlights her favorite cheese-inspired dishes at a free cooking demo at Surfas. She’ll be making Honey and Goat Cheese Napoleons, Cauliflower and Cheddar Soup, and Yam and Goat Cheese Ravioli. Anything with cheese = ummmm good!

8777 Washington Blvd., Culver City; 310-559-4770

2pm

You’ve seen those YouTube videos of those big “flashmob” improv events – now you can be part of one!!  It’s called “No Pants 2K10.” Oh yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like – you wear no pants (but yes, keep your undies on) and ride the subway with possibly hundreds of other supposedly spontaneous Angelinos. Here are the details!!!  P.S. If you do this, you soooo need to give me a play-by-play after!

WHAT: 2nd Annual No Pants Metro Ride
WHEN: Sunday, January 10th, 2010 at 2:00 PM
WHERE: Metro System
BRING: $5 for Metro Day Pass, pants you can easily take off, something in which to keep them

Hello Los Angeles and welcome to the 2nd Annual No Pants Subway Ride!

This mission is pretty self-explanatory: we ride the subway just as anyone would on any given normal day, just without pants (note that this is NO PANTS, not NO UNDERWEAR day. Wouldn’t want anyone arrested for indecent exposure!) We’d like to emphasize the importance of acting casual – like pantslessness is a normal thing – and acting like you do not know any of your fellow riders nor why they are also pantsless (please see the link to the official dossier for more info).

The main train ride will begin with the 2:22PM Westbound Red Line at Union Station. If your birthday is between July 1st and September 30th, board this train. If your birthday is between April 1st and June 30th, board the train that leaves the Civic Center at 2:24pm. If the month of your birthday is between October 1st and December 31st, board the train at Pershing Square at 2:25pm or if it’s between January 1st and March 31st, board at the Metro Center at 2:27pm. We will disembark at Hollywood and Highland, and take it from there.

In list format:

Range in which your birthday falls – Board at this station – Train Leaves Station

July-September – Union Station – 2:22pm
April-June – 1st St./Civic Center – 2:24pm
October December – 5th St./Pershing Square – 2:25pm
January-March – 7th St./Metro Center – 2:27pm

We have provided a link to the official dossier below. We STRONGLY URGE you to take a look at it for all the important details (including info about the post-mission debriefing). Got any more questions? Ask Agent Ooh-Kla (message at facebook.com/leocgonzalez) or our sometimes-fearless leader Agent A (la.agent.a@gmail.com).

7pm-10pm

OK, so now you want to feel good and give back! Check out the Grassroots Acoustia Show at The Talking Stick Coffee Lounge.  It’s free to come, but maybe you’ll want to purchase a latte because all of the evening proceeds go to Support Circle of Care Leeza’s Place, a resource and support center for family caregivers who are impacted by a loved one with a memory disorder or chronic illness. All COCLP programs are designed to educate, empower and energize families while assisting them on their challenging journey.

1411-C Lincoln Blvd. Venice, CA 90291 • 310.450.6052
NO COVER CHARGE. 100% of proceeds of event will benefit COCLP

9pm-2am

What a way to end your evening – A Star Wars Burlesque Show! — What? No! – Yeah, I’m totally serious!!

Princess Leia and a cocktail – what could be bad?

$13. At Bordello Bar, 901 E. 1st Street, Los Angeles

I Can’t Live If Living Is Without You

Monday, December 28, 2009

I woke up this morning, thinking about last night and my romantic evening – and I thought I must look up the lyrics to this song. While I was searching for the lyrics, I found out that the three MAJOR ladies of music covered this song – and yes, I mean: Mariah, Celine and Whitney! But we all know Air Supply made it a hit in 1991!!

But it was so yummy and I didn’t even think about taking a photo until I finished all the delicious soup!! Yes, I said that correctly, soup in a short martini glass!!  What a souper idea (okay, I’m a total geek). Read More

The Yenta’s favorite breakfast spots!

Everyday is a day for breakfast at Toast!  I love the egg scrambles and instead of fruit, I order the “chop chop” – it’s like Israeli salad with chopped tomatoes and cucumbers. http://www.toastbakerycafe.net

For pancakes, Griddle Cafe is it – but these pancakes are a serious treat!  You cannot eat them everyday…“Mounds of Pleasure” is what I dream of – coconut and chocolate chip filled pancakes!! http://www.thegriddlecafe.com/

My favorite extremely buttery egg sandwich comes from Joan’s on Third. It’s called the New York Breakfast Sandwich – scrambled eggs, bacon & Monterey Jack cheese on toasted country bread. And don’t even ask – there are no substitutions on the sandwich…and they’re right – it’s perfect, as is!!http://www.joansonthird.com/breakfast_menu.php?id=7

Swap-O-Rama – a clothing and costume swap!

This Saturday, 12p-5p, at the Venice Center for Peace and Justice and the Arts, join in a communal process of reuse and celebrate collective creativity!  Swap-O-Rama-Rama is a giant clothing swap event with sewing and silk screening stations. Have fun expanding your wardrobe in this community experience and explore creatively recycling reused clothes.

At this Swap-O-Rama-Rama you’ll find a host of talent brought together to teach you how to transform your new/used duds into unique works of your own. There are Sewing Stations where local designers offer fresh clothing mod tricks, on-site Silk Screeners & Stencilers with a collection of original designs, and all these extraordinary designers showing off their work for you.

The core of the swap is the gigantic piles of free clothing sorted (by volunteers) into categories: pants, shirts, skirts, sweaters etc. Take home as much clothing as you can carry. Remainders go to Out of the Closet. Yeah – walk out with a new wardrobe or create an awesome Halloween costume—or both!
